Best Sentence Ever Uttered at Work

"Are you comfortable with this?"

"Would I be comfortable with the Washington Monument up my ass? Because that's how I feel right now."

And no, I'm not the one who said it.

The Breakup

I'm sorry I haven't blogged in awhile. It has come from a combination of being busy and a little sad. Last Sunday Brandon and I broke up. We had been together for almost 3 1/2 years, and though we still love and care about each other, we were really more like best friends than boyfriend and girlfriend. There are a million details about the relationship and breakup that I could analyze here, but I'm not really interested in doing that. The main things is, you can be really compatible with someone as friends, and love them, and want to spend almost all of your time with them, but that doesn't mean you should be their girlfriend. I can't really explain what happened, but we both know that this if for the best. Eventually, we'll both be happier. We're still hanging out and talking on the phone, though obviously not as much. It's awkward and sad and frustrating sometimes, but all in all good to be hanging out just as friends.
It is weird when you breakup, because you want to tell people, but you don't want to announce it. It is kind of awkward. So, I told my mom and a few friends and co-workers, and I mention it if it comes up in conversation, and I figure that is enough to have it spread to other people. Everyone loves gossip!
I have been hoping, in this turning point, that I will really get a grip on life, finally get organized and feel on top of it. I mean, I always get my stuff done, and usually fairly well, but usually with undo stress caused by a combination of procrastination and overly high expectations. I want to avoid most of that stuff now, if possible. But so far, it hasn't happened. If anything, things are in more disarray than ever. But that is to be expected in the first week after the end of a major relationship. And my new addiction to Kakuro (possibly even better than Su Doku) is doing nothing to help. Nor the sore throat I have suddenly developed. But, I have made a comprehensive to-do list, which all list-makers know is the first step to enacting any plan. Now that that all-important step is out of the way, I am certain that I can start being happier, having less stress, getting enough sleep, exercising more, eathing healthier, and being more productive. Right.

And the Fun Never Stops

I am very tired from all the traveling I've done in the last few days, but it I had such a good time it's worth it. Late Thursday night I got back from McLean, VA, where I was working last week.
On Friday Brandon and I drove up to my parents house, in the western Chicago suburbs. Saturday morning we all went up to Wisconsin, to visit my grandparents. We played with the dogs and my cousins' little kids, went boating, played dice and "hillbilly golf," witnessed some of the worst karaoke of our lives, and ate lots of my grandma's homecooked food. It was so fun. I love going to visit them. Sunday afternoon Brandon, my brother, the dog, and I all piled into my car and headed back to Illinois, to my brother's house for a night of drinking, hanging out, and playing video games. Also, sleeping on the floor--woo! Monday morning we left my brother's and headed back to Indianapolis, for lunch at Brandon's mom's. We had more homecooked food, visited, played with the dogs, jumped on the trampoline, and played croquet, which I won.
Then finally on Sunday night, tired, full, and happy, we headed back home. We relaxed and cuddled with kitty, and everything was wonderful. But my body must've broken down from the exhaustion, because I suddenly had a terrible stomache, and urinary tract infection, and a cold all at once. It was awesome! And the pill cocktail was delicious!
This morning I woke up very tired, and very crappy feeling. But, I ate a good breakfast, have eaten healthy all day, drank tons of water, and taken lots of generic Airborne, so I'm not feeling too terrible. But the best thing is is that tonite, Brandon, who also has a cold, is going to go running with me (exercise always makes me feel better when I have a cold), and then we are going to watch a movie. Yay--relaxation! At home! Being home is so good after being away, especially if you are sick. I can't wait!
